Student Council
& Service Learning

Action in motion. Leadership in formation. Global citizenship in action.

At DIS, our Student Council & Service Learning initiatives are powerful expressions of our IB philosophy and mission—cultivating critical thinkers, compassionate leaders, and globally aware changemakers.

Why It Matters

01.

Rooted in IB Excellence

Our service learning programme brings the IB mission to life by nurturing civic consciousness, leadership skills, and global-mindedness through meaningful immersion and community involvement.

02.

Student-Centered Leadership

The Student Council gives students a voice and a platform—empowering them to lead school-wide initiatives, coordinate house and athletic events, and shape community engagement opportunities from within.

03.

Embedded Across the Year

Action—the heart of our learning approach—is woven into academics and student life all year long. Community immersion isn’t optional—unless there are exceptional circumstances, every secondary student participates in at least one immersion during their Domuschola journey.

The Student Council Experience

Students step into roles that matter: organising house competitions, representing peer voices, and collaborating with staff to implement meaningful change. Here’s how:

House System & Athletic Spirit

Assigned to one of three houses (named after Philippine species), students compete across activities to earn points for the annual House Cup—a tradition that builds leadership, camaraderie, and school spirit. The Student Council and Activities Coordinator oversee house alignments and manage event logistics.

Peer Leadership in Motion

From representing classmates in assemblies to spearheading after-school club collaborations, Student Council members practice democratic leadership—designing initiatives, advocating for peers, and coordinating meaningful events like anti-bullying campaigns.

Service Learning:
Action with Purpose

Immersion Activities with Heart

Anchored in the curriculum, our immersion programmes encourage students to step out into the community—building empathy, cultural awareness, and purpose. These experiences shape global citizens ready to impact beyond school walls.

Grounded in IB learner profile attributes, service learning fosters approaches to learning (ATL) skills—social, communication, thinking, self-management, and research—strengthening well-rounded development.

Whether addressing local community needs or exploring social issues with global relevance, our service learning equips students to act with empathy and insight.

Real Impact, Real Results

Consistent Engagement

Action-oriented initiatives aren’t one-offs—they’re integrated into academics and student life all year. Each secondary student is involved in at least one community immersion activity during their stay.

Leadership That Matters

Through Student Council participation, students learn democratic values, project management, teamwork, and public speaking—the same hallmarks of global-ready citizens.

Deepened Understanding & Agency

Immersive service projects challenge students to connect learning with real-world action, developing empathy, community-mindedness, and leadership that lasts.
